JANUARY 26 READING…GENESIS 45-46 & MATTHEW 20
The theme of today’s reading is the though sin causes great pain, God is able to work in any situation to bring restoration. The sin that caused pain to Jacob’s family has come to a head. Joseph could have been completely unforgiving, or he could forgive his brothers and restore the family. Joseph chooses to forgive and restore his brothers…this brings this broken family back together. Jacob will have all his sons together again…they will be taken care of in the land of Goshen…and because of forgiveness, a nation was about to be born. God had used Joseph to make Pharaoh rich and powerful, and now Pharaoh would accept the family of Jacob, and they would be blessed in the land of Egypt.
In Matthew 20 we have our forgiving Savior begin his journey to the cross. He came to bring forgiveness, and He came to provide a way for those who were estrange from God to be reunited with Him. Jesus calls His followers to stay faithful even through all they are about to see. They were to be careful of selfish ambition. On his way to Jerusalem Jesus meets two blind men in the region of Jericho and restores their sight. He is on His way to Jerusalem to do what needs to be done to restore the sight to all who would believe.
