JANUARY 2 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: PROVERBS 29:18
To have a vision for our lives is very important...to have direction...to have goals...to know your purpose. But even more important than having a vision is the source of that vision. Vision statements are great, we have one for our church...we believe the Lord led us to this statement to declare the Lord's purpose for us as His church. We don't just follow the statement because it is our statement, but we follow the Lord who gave us the statement. The statement could change. However, the Lord never changes. Our church as a body of believers can know why we exist, where we are attempting to go, how we believe the Lord is leading us by the statement of vision we put forth.
I have a personal vision for the ministry that I believe the Lord has called me to. The Lord used an older retired Pastor to speak it into my life in the first church I pastored over 40 years ago. That Pastor's name was Lloyd Pugh...he was a gentle, caring man, though I never heard him preach a sermon, I got to see him live his faith every week until the day I did his funeral. He was not presumptuous, so he asked if he could share with me, I said please do. He said, "There really are only two things you need to remember in being a Pastor...Love the people and preach the Word." That has been the vision of my life and my ministry since the Lord gave it to me through a wonderful man of God. I can't say I have always done either one effectively all the time, or any of the time, but this is my God-given purpose...the reason I exist...God's vision for my life. I hope you have a vision for your life, or that you are at least seeking one. Remember only God can give us our life's vision...our purpose...the direction we need today and every day.
Please share your thoughts.
