JANUARY 2 READING…MATTHEW 2
What an exceptional event happens when Jesus was a toddler living in the town of Bethlehem with his parents. A caravan with wisemen coming from the region of Persia came to visit them. They had been studying the stars, and were given insight that a king was to be born. So, what is so important about a king being born…this king was special and God had given these wisemen and astrologers information that moved them to make the long journey to the tiny town of Bethlehem. They brought with them expensive gifts that was meant for a special king. Gold, frankincense, and…wait that third gift, myrrh, what is that all about? That had to do with burial preparation…a strange gift to bring a baby, to be sure. But, you see God was at work at the manger making known why this baby had come…and why this king had been born…to die for our sin. The other thing we can see is that when God is at work, Satan, the fallen angels, and demons are also at work. They worked through king Herod in an attempt to kill the Christ Child…even to the place where Herod would slaughter all the male children under two years of age in the town of Bethlehem. Finally, what I hope you will see is that God’s plan cannot be stopped. We see the Lord’s protective hand on this child, until it was God’s time for Jesus to go to the cross. The same is true for us…don’t worry my brothers and sisters, nothing can touch you unless first God allows it, and if He allows it, He will not only be your strength and your portion…but He will also be glorified and His plan fulfilled in you.
Please share your thoughts.
