JANUARY 12 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: JOHN 15:1-8
Do we really want to know the will of God? Even if it’s not what we want? Are we ready and willing to surrender our will to the Lord's will? "Are we doing the will of God that He has already given us?" God's word is filled with His will for every child of God. If we are not actively doing what He has already revealed in His Word, then how can we expect that He will show us more of His will? It makes no sense to be disobeying God's will in the Scripture and then expect Him to reveal more. So, the first step in finding God's specific will is to be obeying His revealed will in the Scriptures. To know God's will we must be actively obeying Him.
If we are following His will in His Word then the next step to finding His specific will in anything is to ask Him. Can God use someone else to share His will with us...sure He can, but be very careful in this, don't go to people before you go to God. Some expect God to cause a lightning bolt to strike and reveal His will...I have no doubt God can do this, but it is doubtful this would be His normal mode of operation. Still others use the "open door" approach to finding God's will...they wait until a door opens, assume it is God who is opening it and then go through it believing this to be God's will...the problem with this approach is that it is not only God who opens doors. So that brings us back to finding God's will, being willing to surrender your will to His will...be doing His will that revealed in His Word...ask Him to show you His will. Even doing all this could we miss His will? Yes, for though He is infallible, we are fallible beings...but the Lord is never going to punish you or be disappointed in you when you genuinely seek Him and His will.
