JANUARY 10, 2025 ~ FROM A PASTOR'S HEART

JANUARY 10 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 18:15-20

Television and social media have their place in the ministry, but they can never replace the need for the church to be together, meeting in one place. There is something special about being with each other. The Lord created us with the need for real human contact and that holds true for worship, teaching, preaching and fellowship. There is also the dynamic of the promised presence of Christ when we gather in His Name. This is not the same when we sit at home. It is true the Lord can and does meet with us individually in our personal worship and prayer time, but He has also called us to gather together and in that gathering He has promised to be very present.

When you think about what the Scripture teaches us about the church, we see the importance of the Body of Christ to the Lord. He established the church...He gave the church its mission...He has made the church His bride...He loved the church and died for her...He builds the church that the gates of hell will not stand against...He is coming for His church. As you can see the church is very important to the Lord. It should be understood that we don't go to the church...we gather as the church. It is in the dynamic of the gathering of born-again believers that we have the church, from that gathering we go out as the church sharing the wonderful message and ministry of Christ. The writer of Hebrews tells us that we are, "...not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together." It is important that we gather together. It is God's design and desire for His people to be together as His church. If the church is this important to the Lord...shouldn't it be this important to us?
