FEBRUARY 9 READING…MARK 2
As Jesus begins His earthly ministry, that will last approximately three years, we see Him serving then needs of people and adding to His disciples. It becomes clear right from the start that Jesus was not going to do things according to the religious norm. Jesus was not there to reform religion, He came to do a whole new thing. Religion had become so corrupt, just like everything of God that sinful people get control of. The religious leaders then and now, are more concerned with keeping their positions, and that things be done according to their dictates, that they had forgotten they were/are there to minister into the lives of people. They would not dare bring healing or comfort on a Sabbath…for that would be a sin. Yet, when they fasted they did so in a manner that people would think they were greatly pious men. Jesus healed, He gave forgiveness of sin, and He understood that God was more concerned about people and their spiritual condition, then He was about how religiously right they were. This approach instantly put Jesus at odds with the religious dead-heads of that time…and He remains at odds with the religious dead-heads today.
