FEBRUARY 7 READING…MATTHEW 28
In our reading today, we have the greatest affirmation in the history of the universe recorded for us. The Resurrection is God’s affirmation of Jesus the Son, and the sacrifice He made on the cross. There are those who claim that Jesus’ Resurrection was a spiritual resurrection, and His bones are still in a grave in the middle east. These people do not know the meaning of the word “Resurrection” …the word speaks of the body being raised. Many people died on a cross during the rule of the nation of Rome…only Jesus rose from the dead…only Jesus overcame death. The fact of Jesus’ Resurrection was not kept secret. Matthew records that Jesus appeared to the women who followed Him. Matthew talks of the Roman soldiers being bribed to lie about what happened. Then Matthew tells us of his own first-hand account of the Resurrection of Jesus when Jesus met with Matthew and the other disciples, giving them the great commission. The commission we are called to continue until we leave this earth, or the end of this age comes.
