FEBRUARY 2 READING…MATTHEW 25
Yesterday we read of the certainty of the return of Jesus. We don’t know when, but He certainly gave us the signs to look for that would tell us of when His return was near. It would be hard to argue that we are not nearing that time. Today’s reading speaks of our need to be ready. Jesus gives two parables that reminding us of to be prepared for the Lord’s coming. The parable of the foolish and wise virgins, speaks of the need to keep things in our lives ready for Jesus’ return (our lamps full). If we are not continually walking in the fullness of the Holy Spirit, filled with the Word, we will not be ready for the coming of Christ. Sadly, many believers have empty lamps, and do nothing to refill them, and are not ready for Jesus to come back. The second parable is of the talents…and the need to use the things God has given us, while we wait for His return. We are not to sit idly doing nothing in anticipation of Jesus’ return. We are to use what God has given to the fullest extent we can, until the day of His return. What He has given us is for this world…we won’t need it in eternity.
