DECEMBER 4 READING…NEHEMIAH 11 & ACTS 23
The plans continued for the resettlement of the land of Judah. They would have those who would settle both within the city of Jerusalem and outside of the city. It was a time of renewal for the people back in their land. It was also a time that was marked by unselfishness, the people were literally looking out for one another. It is always a great thing when the people of God realize how blessed they are and understand the purpose of God’s blessings. God does not bless us so we can be blessed, or to boast about how blessed we are. The Lord blesses us to be a blessing to others. Sadly, far too often we think it is just about us, and as long as we are blessed, others don’t matter. God intends for us to be His light in this dark world. That happens when we live our lives for others. It really ought to be in this order…we live first for God…then we live for others…and finally for ourselves. This was happening in Judah in the early days of their return from captivity…but it would not last long. We sing a chorus in the church… ”God will make a way when there seems to be no way…” This is illustrated for us in Acts 23 when God demonstrates His hand of provision and protection for Paul. The Jews planned to kill Paul, but the Lord told Paul that he did not need to worry for God had plans for Paul to testify in Rome. The move toward Rome began with a secret escape for Paul, under the protection of the Roman guard, to Caesarea. Once again, this would afford Paul the privilege of sharing the Gospel in an arena that few would ever have such an opportunity. Let me encourage you all to look for the opportunity the Lord has provided in your life to share His Gospel truth…those opportunities are always there; we just need to take advantage of them.
Please share your thoughts.
