DECEMBER 31 READING…REVELATION 20-22
Here we are at the end of 2024, it is hard to believe that we are about to start 2025. This past year we have walked together through the New Testament, and today after a few days off for Christmas we will finish this walk. As we look forward to 2025, I will be posting daily from my first book, “From A Pastor’s Heart”…for the next 365 days I will be sharing very personal devotions, that I hope will be an encouragement, a challenge, and an edification to all who read them. For today we finish our walk through the New Testament.
John concludes his revelation in these final three chapters. They begin with Satan being bound for a thousand years, and this begins the millennium. Satan is cast into the bottomless pit (abyss), where he is imprisoned for one thousand years, and after that he will be released for a period of time before being cast into the lake of fire for eternity. Jesus sets up His kingdom here on earth where His saints and martyrs of the tribulation will be with Him…this time will be followed by the resurrection of all the saved. When Satan is released from the pit, he will lead a rebellion against the Lord. It will be a short-lived rebellion, as Satan and all those who follow him will be cast into hell. Then the time of the Great White Throne of judgment will happen, where all the unbelieving dead will have their day of judgment…all from there will be cast into hell for their rejection of Jesus. Death and hades will also be cast into hell…and they will be no more.
Chapter’s 21 & 22 bring us into eternity for those who believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Our eternal home descends out of heaven (the new Jerusalem). Our eternal home will be magnificent, but the greatest of its glory is that Jesus will be there. It will be a place of eternal perfection…where no sin can enter in, and it will be populated by those whose names are written down in the Lamb’s Book of Life. John concludes with both a promise and a warning from Jesus…He says that He is coming quickly, and we are blessed if we keep the words of prophecy of this book. John also gives a warning about either adding to, or taking from, the prophetic words in this book. Jesus tells us a second time that He is coming quickly…and His reward is with Him. A final call from the Bible is sent out to all who read this…the call is to come, we are called to come and take of the river of life (salvation), which is freely offered to all. The book closes with Jesus’ words, again, telling us that He is coming quickly. We join with John and say “Maranatha”, meaning, “Amen, even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
