DECEMBER 3 READING…REVELATION 4
In this chapter John is caught up in the Spirit, and he sees the very throne room of God. He saw the One sat on the throne, but the One who sat on the throne was too magnificent for John to comprehend. John describes Him as being like jasper and sardius in appearance. There was a rainbow around the throne, that had the appearance of emerald. This scene is somewhat reminiscent of Isaiah’s experience in Isaiah chapter 6. Around the throne of God were 24 elders sitting on thrones, dressed in white. Some have said these elders represent the 12 tribes and the 12 apostles. From the main throne came lightnings, thundering’s, and voices. The sevenfold Spirit of God were represented by seven lamps burning before the throne. There was a sea of glass, like crystal. The four living creatures mentioned in the Old Testament were there. They cried out…”Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come.” In the last part of their cry of worship they were declaring the eternal Name of God…I AM. When these creatures began to worship the 24 elders fall on their faces before God on His throne and worship Him. As they do, they declare…”You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” What a glorious and wonderful picture of heaven John gives us in this chapter.
