DECEMBER 12 READING…ISAIAH 1-2 & PSALM 146 & REVELATION 3
The northern kingdom of Israel has fallen to the Assyrians. Isaiah has been appointed by the Lord to prophesy to the southern kingdom of Judah. He would do this over a long period of time, under the leadership of four different kings. Isaiah doesn’t hesitate to direct his words to the great evil that was happening in Judah. They have left God and no longer even know Him. Their actions have provoked the Lord to anger, and judgment will be the result. Judah did not learn anything from the fall of Israel, and now their fall will be much greater. Isaiah likens them to Sodom and Gomorrah. He warns them that the day of the Lord is coming upon them…and it will not be a good day. The Psalmist reminds us to never put our ultimate trust in political leaders, for that have become corrupt. They cannot save, nor do they really care to, for their priority is their own riches and position. In Revelation, the Lord continues to speak to His churches. He warns the spiritually dead church…He commends the faithful church…and He tells the lukewarm church that it makes Him sick to His stomach. As things were then in the time of Isaiah, the Psalmist, and John…they are today. What is the Lord saying to us today?
