DECEMBER 10 READING…REVELATION 9
This chapter contains information about the fifth and sixth trumpets. Remember these trumpets bring God’s judgement on the earth. They are the second set of judgments that God sends to the earth during the time of the tribulation. The fifth trumpet sounds, and an angel falls from heaven, and he has the keys to the bottomless pit (also known as the abyss). Who is the angel…many commentators believe this is Satan going to open the abyss. Who is in the abyss? According to Jude and Peter, this is the dwelling place of the fallen angels who did not keep their proper abode. These joined with women and the result was the Nephilim, this is recorded for us in Genesis 6. Also, according to Jesus there were also demons that were consigned to the abyss. These demons are the spirits of the Nephilim…they are distinctly different from the fallen angels. This is a horrible event when the abyss is opened, because these evil beings are set free to go to the earth and torment humans for five months. Their leader is Abaddon, or Apollyon…meaning the destroyer. Then the sixth trumpet is blown by its angel, and another “woe”, that is horror happens, as four angels were released to kill a third of the humans on the earth. A huge army is assembled to carry out this evil genocide…the army numbered two hundred million. This by far is the greatest numbered army that has ever existed on the earth. You would think after the torment of the beings from the abyss, and the genocide of this massive army the people on the earth would repent and turn to God…but they will not. As a matter of fact, they seem to accelerate and magnify their evil on the earth. The judgment of God is coming…oh please, consider turning to Jesus for the salvation of your eternal soul. For as bad as this temporary judgment will be, it cannot compare to eternity in hell.
