SEPTEMBER 19 READING…2 THESSALONIANS 2
It is clear we are living in troubling times. Times of great unrest in the world…politically, economically, and religiously. If you think about it, you will see throughout history these have been the three “pillars” of power in our world. John tells us in the book of Revelation that the last system of this world before Jesus returns will be built on these three pillars. Paul again deals with the “day of the Lord”, and that the believers we so concerned about it happening that it paralyzed them in fear. There were also those false teachers in the church that were teaching that Jesus had already returned, and the day of the Lord had already happened. Paul reassures the church that this is not true and that there would be identifiable events that would need to happen before that day. There would be a great falling away that would happen first…we are seeing the beginning of this apostasy today…and we are seeing it accelerating at breakneck speed. Then the Antichrist, the “son of perdition” would be revealed. Like his father, the devil, he will deceive many that he is the “messiah”…but he is a destroyer. He will be a blasphemer, as he will claim deity…while deceiving people with lying signs and wonders. But he cannot come until the Holy Spirit allows... and again in Revelation, this won’t happen until Jesus opens the first seal…then Antichrist will be revealed. Those who have rejected Jesus will be sent a strong delusion by God Himself, and these will believe that Antichrist is god. But we are sealed by God…we have been set apart by the Holy Spirit through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We don’t have to be shaken, or in fear. For Jesus who saved us will also protect and keep us. So, we are to comfort one another with these truths.
