AUGUST 31 READING…JOB 15-16 & PSALM 69
Not everyone who speaks into your life, really cares about you. Even when they might say, “I am only saying this because I want what is best for you…because I really care”. Be careful of those people who only show up when you are going through something difficult to give you advice on how you could have avoided your trouble, if you had only _______ (fill in the blank). These are not friends, and they don’t care a thing about you…they care about that what they think and say is affirmed as being filled with great wisdom. Job’s “friends” were like this. They took turns dropping the “truth” bombs on Job, who was already devastated…then they walked away in their self-righteousness, leaving Job with no possibility of relief or help. Friends are those who are there with us in good times and in hard times. They may not be able to be in close proximity with us, but we know who they are and we know that they are there to love us and yes, to speak truth in our lives that comes from genuine and humble love. Job’s friends told him that the reason that he was suffering was that he had done wrong…really? If that were true we would all, always, be suffering that which we were due. Where is the grace of God? The self-righteous don’t know it, because they don’t believe they need it…so they can’t share it with anyone else. The Psalmist cries out for God’s grace as he faces the hatred of others for no apparent reason. It is clear that his opposition comes from those who want to put him down because he is a follower of God. Don’t expect the world to cheer your faith…truth be told the religious won’t either…keep your eyes on the Lord, seek to please Him, and worry more about what He thinks than what others think.
Please share your thoughts.
