AUGUST 3 READING…1 CHRONICLES 24 & LUKE 22
As preparation for the building of the Temple under Solomon continues, they take great care to make sure they have the proper line from Aaron. They do this because out of the tribe of Levy comes the priests, and from the line of Aaron comes the High Priest. They wanted to make sure when the Temple was built, they were doing everything according to God’s plan. In Luke we have Jesus closing out His teaching ministry to His disciples, preparing to go to the cross, being betrayed by Judas, and being brought before the high priest and part of the Sanhedrin for an illegal trial. Interesting, that the high priest in Jesus’ time was shared by two men who were related, Caiaphas and Annas. Also, interesting, neither one of them had any right to hold the office, for they were not descendants of Aaron. Much in the same way as Herod had no legal or biblical claim to the throne of Judah…for he was not a descendant of David. When Jesus came in the flesh, Israel was led by corrupt and ungodly men. They had ignored the Lord’s instruction for both the office of the High Priest and the king. This corruption continued to lead the people to a place where they had very little consideration of God, but their religion had become more of a cultural thing. Therefore, they missed the Messiah when He came…not only did they miss Him, they hated Him and killed Him. Lord help us to stay in You in these days of corruption…let us not miss Jesus!
