AUGUST 29 READING…JOB 10-12 & PSALM 39
We have all heard the saying, “If you cannot say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” That should be expanded to if we don’t know, don’t speak. Job’s “friends”, tried to give him advice on that which they did not know. What human actually has the mind of God? We can only speak with authority of God in those things that He has clearly had written for us. His Word is our authority, because it comes from Him. Our impressions, our hopes, and are feelings do not equate to the mind of God. We must always be careful to speak when God has not spoken. The friends of Job were much like many believers today…they had the idea that because they thought it, it must have come from God. Too many professing Christians believe that God thinks like them, so they have no problem attaching God’s Name to their thoughts and desires. God has spoken in His infallible Word. The Psalmist was cautious to not speak ahead of the Lord, or try to speak for the Lord. One more axiom would be good for us to enact in our lives…”God gave us two ears and one mouth, use them proportionately”. We need to wait upon the Lord…we need to listen to the Lord…for our hope is in the Lord alone.
Please share your thoughts.
