AUGUST 28 READING…EPHESIANS 5
Paul deals with what our walk ought to look like as followers of Jesus. He begins by calling us to walk in love. It was Jesus who said that the world would know we are His followers by the way we love one another. This love is not like the world’s love that promotes an “anything goes” philosophy…biblical love is based in truth and requires accountability to God and to one another. Biblical love is a call to walk in righteousness, not in fornication and uncleanness. It requires us to speak that which is true and good, to not enter into covetousness or unthankfulness. We are to walk in the light. We once walked in the darkness, but now we must walk in the light of God’s truth. Which means we are to walk in an upright manner, and to cease walking in the foolishness of this world. We do this as we are filled with the Holy Spirit…for it is only as we are controlled by the Spirit that we can fulfill God’s call upon our lives and our walk. This is seen as we submit ourselves to one another. It is seen in the marriage relationship as wives respond properly to their own husbands…and as husbands love their wives in the way that Christ loved the church. Our faith is meant to change who we are…it changes the way we live…it changes what we do…it literally changes how we love and respond to one another.
