AUGUST 25 READING…EZRA 9-10 & PSALM 32
There is a difference between sinning willfully and sinning from ignorance. It is true both are sin, and both hold consequences. But the one that knows better is more responsible. I must confess, that at times this thought scares me to death. When I choose to sin, it not only impacts me, but it impacts all those around me, and even people I don’t know. Judah had been set free from bondage and they returned to their land, only to place themselves back in spiritual bondage, by being disobedient to God in marrying the people of the land…God forbid this. To make things right with God, they first needed to be broken and repent, but they also needed to make things right. This would definitely hurt many people. They were required to put away their pagan wives. This would have never happened if they would have just been obedient to the Lord from the start…they knew better. The remedy to their disobedience seems harsh and impacts innocents…that is what sin always does. Psalms reminds us that we have a God that requires our obedience in all things…not because He is cruel, but because He intends for us to live in His blessings. When we fail, He is also the God who is always there to forgive and restore us. On our part we are called to do what is right, obey God, and be vessels of blessing.
