AUGUST 24 READING…PSALM 126 & EZRA 6-8
Freedom is such a precious gift…and the loss of freedom is always horrible. Our own founding fathers recognized the humans were created to be free…and anything less is not what God intended. Judah had been in bondage for 70 years; a group was released to go back and rebuild the walls and the Temple. When the Temple was complete, the priest Ezra was allowed to return…along with any of the other captives from Judah that wanted to return to their homeland. In Psalms we have the celebration of freedom…it was like their fourth of July. They were back in the land, no longer captives, and about to reinstitute the worship in the Temple, though these people had never been to Jerusalem…it was still very precious to be back home. I get the sense that this is a shadow of heaven for us. We have never been there…but oh, how we can’t wait to get home to heaven. Everything will be as it is supposed to be. For Judah it would not be long until things changed again, because of their disobedience. But in heaven, everything will be as it is supposed to be forever!
