AUGUST 22 READING…EZRA 1-2 & PSALM 84
Coming out of bondage can be difficult, and there needs to be a time of growth and development. It also requires a recognition that one was once in bondage, but is no longer in that bondage. It is also incumbent that the person stays so close to the Lord, that they do return to a live held in bondage. In Christ we are told we are free…not free to do anything we want…but, free to walk in the Lord and experience the fullness of life that He has given us. Judah has been set free from 70 years of bondage. When they return to their land all they find is destruction. Following the destruction of Jerusalem, for 70 years the decay of the land continued. The people were counted and recognized as being part of the group that was set free and have returned home. The people initially recognized their new freedom, rejoiced in the Lord’s provision, and followed their God ordained leadership. After these things we will see the people moved to action to restore that which was broken because of their captivity, due to their disobedience to the Lord. Psalms expresses the beauty of freedom and restoration. Our souls long for the freedom that only comes through Christ Jesus. This freedom makes our pilgrimage here on earth not only tolerable, it makes it fruitful and a blessing. The freedom of God, in whatever situation we find ourselves, is much better than any freedom the world will ever offer.
