AUGUST 20 READING…GALATIANS 5
Paul teaches what we all know about ourselves. We know that in ourselves we are capable of committing grave sins, even though we have been born-again. How is this possible, since we have been given a whole new nature in Christ? We do have a new nature, which makes it possible to follow Christ…lost people do not possess this nature. For we who are biblical Christians, we have the responsibility to make one right choice…this choice makes all the difference in how we act and whether or not our lives reflect Christ, or our lives reflect the world. Paul says we make the choice to either walk in the Spirit, or to walk in the flesh. In the flesh we are capable of doing everything that lost people do…immorality, impurity, lust, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, envy, drunkenness, and other sins like these. That is quite a list…and it is the result of believers walking in the flesh. But, if we choose to walk in the Spirit, the result is the fruit of the Spirit being seen in us…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self control. These reveal Jesus in us, and happen automatically when we are surrendered to the Holy Spirit. For we Christians we don’t have many choices that we have to make…we have just one…do we surrender to our flesh, or do we surrender to the Holy Spirit.
Please share your thoughts.
