AUGUST 18 READING…2 CHRONICLES 31-32 & PSALM 112
Oh that we would all have the heart of Hezekiah. Certainly, he didn’t always do everything right, or make all the right choices, but he knew the Lord, and trusted him when threatened by an enemy that had never lost a battle. Sennacherib was the king of Assyria, and he was an evil man filled with pride. He had never lost a battle, and began to see himself as greater than any god. Certainly he was greater than the pagan gods of the countries he defeated, for they were not God at all. But when he brought a siege against Judah, boasting Great blasphemies against the one true and living God.…he lost 120,000 men in one night. No warrior of Judah had to be sent out by king Hezekiah, for the Lord of heaven’s army, sent His angels to defeat Sennacherib and his “mighty” army. There is none like God…and the king of Assyria found that out. Those today, who boast against God…who say that God is dead, impotent, and non-existent…will find out just like Sennacherib. The Psalmist reminds us that God is not mocked…He takes great care of those who belong to Him…and He will destroy those who blasphemy His Name!
