AUGUST 16, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

AUGUST 16 READING…2 CHRONICLES 26-28 & PSALM 2

In today’s reading we have the story of three kings. Each different, but each continued in the process of Judah turning from the Lord. Uzziah, started off following the Lord until he forgot that it was the Lord that won the victory, and he got filled with pride. His pride, like all pride, led him to move away from the Lord. He was so filled with “his” accomplishments, that he overstepped his place and did what only the priests were allowed to do according to the instruction of the Lord. He was struck with leprosy until the day of his death. He is followed by Jotham, who followed the Lord, but the people had become so corrupt, they did not follow the king’s leadership or example. After Jotham, Ahaz became king…he was a wicked king, he worshiped Baal, and sacrificed children by burning them alive in fire to Molech. His wickedness caused God to turn His hand against Judah and they knew no victory over their enemies. This did not change Ahaz’s heart toward God…he just became more and more wicked. He put up high places of idolatry in every city in Judah. In Psalms we are told of the folly of those who reject God. They believe somehow, they have the power to reject and rebel against God with impunity. God laughs at their impotence, and pride. We live in a time when our leaders think they have the power to enact laws contrary to God, and they believe they can do so with impunity. The Lord laughs at their folly, for they will find out either in this life or eternity that they have no power to makes decisions contrary to God. Keep calling out God’s truth child of God…no one has the ultimate authority over you other than God…seek to please Him, and spend no time worrying that you are not pleasing this God hating world.

Please share your thoughts.
