AUGUST 14 READING…2 CHRONICLES 21-23 & PSALM 92
When the wicked rule the people suffer. And after the wicked have ruled long enough, a nation is destroyed. Jehoram was a wicked king, and rather than even following the Lord at all, he rejected the Lord and went the way of Ahab. His wickedness was so great that the Lord sent Elijah to prophecy that the Lord would strike him down with a painful intestinal disease. Another wicked king, Ahaziah, takes the throne, whose mother, Athaliah was also very wicked, and counseled him to do wickedly. He was killed by Jehu, and his mother assumed the throne, and quickly killed all the family members that could possibly assume to the throne…but the child Joash was taken and hidden by the king’s daughter. God used a faithful priest, Jehoiada, to rid the nation of the wicked Athaliah. God was not going to allow this wicked woman to assume that which did not belong to her. Her assassination would prepare the way for Joash to take the throne. In Psalms we are reminded that God is always at work, and He always has His people…even in the most wicked times. Those people will remain faithful, because they know that the Lord reigns, and His purpose will ultimately be fulfilled, no matter what the wicked do. We live in a time of great wickedness, churches are heading into apostasy, and our nation has rejected God completely. Remember, God is still on His throne, and He will accomplish what He has declared.
