APRIL 5 READING…DEUTERONOMY 13-14 & PROVERBS 4
Just a note…I inadvertently did Proverbs 5 in yesterday’s reading…I actually find that went with yesterday’s Deuteronomy reading better…so today I am doing Proverbs 4 with Deuteronomy 13-14.
Today’s theme is that the way of God is always the best way. This is true whether or not we fully understand God’s reasoning as we receive His instructions. God loves us, so anything that He gives us, or in anyway He directs us, is based on that love and is the best thing for us. Moses warns the people of the false prophets that would come among them claiming to speak the things of God. This issue is an issue for every generation of believers…both false prophets and false teachers. If what they say does not come true their words were to be rejected, and they were to be put to death. It is not a small thing to claim God said something when He did not…these false prophets make God a liar. The false teachers in our day do the same thing. Moses told the people to follow the Lord only, and not to be enticed by someone trying to lead them into idolatry. God gave instruction about food, because He cared about their physical health. And God gave them the instruction for tithes, that they would not forget that everything comes from God. In Proverbs 4, we are called to receive the instruction from our fathers. This infers the instruction of a godly parent, who are themselves following God. We are to hear this wisdom, and we are called to apply this wisdom in our daily lives. We need to stay away from wicked people, reject their wicked counsel, and do not become involved in their wicked behavior. We must keep our hearts, and our lives, right before our God.
Please share your thoughts.
