APRIL 4 READING…DEUTERONOMY 11-12 & PROVERBS 4
Today’s theme is that obedience brings the Lord’s victory in our lives. I am not saying that we obey to get God to do what we want, but that if we want God’s best for our lives we must obey Him. His Word, His law, has been given to us so that we can know Him, and so we can know what is right and wrong from His perspective. When it gets down to it, it is God’s determination of right and wrong, good and bad, holy and evil that matters. He loves us so much that He has given us His truth in His Word, that our lives might know His victory…even when this life gets hard, and things are not always good. In Deuteronomy, Moses instructs the people to both read and obey the law of God…to read, but not obey, is an act of futility. It makes no sense to intentionally violate God’s truth, and then expect Him to bless us. Sadly, far too many churches and denominations, along with individual Christians, are blatantly disobeying God’s command…yet they still demand that the Lord bless their disobedience. In Proverbs, the writer touches on one of God’s commands that brings a blessing. He tells us to love our spouse, and stay faithful to them only. We are commanded to not commit adultery. Families, churches, communities, and whole societies have been destroyed because of people’s disobedience to God concerning this command. The blessing of marriage is only realized in joyful faithfulness. The destruction of the family brought about by adultery has destroyed so much in our society and churches.
