APRIL 28 READING…JOSHUA 21-22 & PROVERBS 28
Our theme today is the call to do the right thing, even though there will always be those who will misunderstand your motives. The land of promise had been portioned off, as Israel had taken the land under Joshua’s leadership. The apportionment ends with the cities of the Levites being assigned. It was now time for the men of the 2 1/2 tribes who helped win the land to head back over to the east side of the Jordan and rejoin their families. Just before crossing the Jordan, they stopped to build a monument of reminder of what God had done. Some in the other tribes saw this as them building an altar unto themselves, and feared the judgment of God on all Israel. This misunderstanding almost caused a civil war in Israel. In Proverbs, we are called to walk in a way that removes, as much as possible, the misunderstanding of our motives. Walk righteously, follow the law, be people of integrity, be models of right living, be reverent before God, be faithful, be honest, walk in humility, and do not envy others. Of course, we can do all this and still our motives will be suspect to some people. We can only walk right before God and others…if people then want to attribute bad motives to us…that is their issue, not ours.
Please share your thoughts.
