APRIL 22 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: DEUTERONOMY 4:25-40

The privilege to be a parent is one of the greatest blessings that the Lord gives us. With this great blessing comes a tremendous responsibility for those precious souls. James Dobson reminds us that, "Parenting isn't for cowards" or for the weak of heart. Even though we live in an age that sees children as more of a burden than a blessing...from God's perspective they are a blessing. Our children are precious souls from God and when the Lord gives them to us, they become our life’s primary work and our main ministry.

Today, too often the view of parenting is to produce the offspring and then let others raise them. Parents let preschools be responsible for their early childhood development. Then the children are moved to regular school where the responsibility is placed on the teacher and the school system, to not only teach but to infuse the child with society's values and morals. If there is to be a spiritual component, the child is sent to church where the church becomes responsible for the child's spiritual growth. All along the way the child is blasted with input from television, movies and music. Listen, there is nothing inherently wrong with preschool, school and church...and good television, movies and music are helpful. But before God, none of these have the responsibility to raise our children...we do!
