APRIL 16 READINGS...1 Samuel 22:1-2 & Psalm 57 & 142 & 1 Chronicles 12:8-18 & 1 Samuel 22:3-23 & Psalm 52 & 1 Samuel 23:1-12
Today we read from many various Scriptures. David is on the run from Saul...but at the same time David is building an army, with some mighty men. David moves his parents to Moab for their safety. Saul’s rage continues and his paranoia grows. He thinks everyone is against him. A wicked man named Doeg the Edomite tells Saul that the priest of Nob, Ahimelech, had betrayed him by giving aid to David. Saul had Ahimelech and all his family slaughtered, with only one son, Abiathar escaping to David. In Psalm 52, David speaks of the wickedness of Doeg, and the fact that the Lord would rightly judge and punish him.
David and his men get a request for help from the community of Keilah...as the Philistines where stealing their grain. David asks the Lord as to whether he should go...God says yes, and assures David and his men victory. Saul heard that David is in Keilah and moved to attack David. David asks the Lord two questions...will Saul come and will the people of Keilah betray him to Saul...God answered both questions with a yes. People are fickle and more concerned for their own well-being than what is right. This town was saved by David, but when Saul came they would easily betray David. Not everyone can be trusted...not everyone does what is right...when the heat is turned up people’s true colors come out. Mark my word...the heat is about to be turned up on the church, and we are about to see everyone’s true colors. I hope your colors are true!
