APRIL 14 READINGS...1 Samuel 17:32-19:17 & Psalm 59 & 1 Samuel 19:18-24
Where is the power to overcome the enemies of God? Who strengthens us to be able to stand against the "giants" that blaspheme God, and intend to destroy the people of God? David has that answer...when the giant spoke with disdain at David coming out against him, David spoke the eternal truth of God. "You come to me with a sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the Name of the Lord of heaven's armies...the God of Israel's armies', whom you have defied." David was not afraid of Goliath like Saul and the army of Israel...for he knew that the Lord God was with him, and that He is far greater than any power on earth. We are reminded of this in 1 John 4:4..."You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." We need to walk as the people of God...empowered by God in everything He has called us to be and to do.
When we walk with the Lord we need to realize that we will have enemies...even in our own camp. I have found through the years the sad reality that I have had greater opposition from those inside the Christian community than from those of the world. For David it soon became apparent that David's greatest opposition would come from Saul...the king who he was serving. Jealousy is an ugly thing, it distorts everything. Saul could not see that David was for him, and faithfully served him. Sadly, far too many churches think they are in competition with other churches, and are jealous that God is using others rather than using them. Every Bible believing church should be the biggest cheer-leader of every other Bible believing church. Bible believing churches should not be in competition with one other...they should not be motivated by jealousy, but should join together in the great work of the Lord has called us to...assisting and cheering each other in the Lord's work. Saul's jealousy would destroy everything for him, including his kingdom...jealousy never builds up anything for us, but destroys everything for us.
Please share any thoughts you have from today's readings. I encourage each of us to walk only in the power of the Holy Spirit of God, and stop trusting in the things of the world. The Lord ALWAYS supplies what we need to accomplish whatever He has called us to.
