APRIL 13 READING…DEUTERONOMY 28 & PROVERBS 13
The theme for today is a simple one, spoken of several places in the Scripture…it could be summed up as, “you reap what you sow”. Moses says to the people in Deuteronomy that if they would follow and obey the Lord in all things, the result would be a blessed life. Doing what is right brings blessings…though we ought to do what is right because it is the right thing to do. The Lord loves us and wants the best for us…that will not happen for us if we chose to live in disobedience…we will bring curses on ourselves. Moses tells the people that trouble always follows those who live in disobedience to the Lord. Here is what is true, God takes sin seriously…while mankind tends to act as if sin is no big deal. Some trouble in our life is a result of our rebellion to the Lord, while other trouble comes from our own poor decisions. The writer of Proverbs deals with this, as he instructs the child to listen and follow his parents’ instructions. Scoffers are always headed for trouble. He tells us to be careful who we hang around…if we walk with the wise, we will walk in wisdom. Evil follows sinners…and foolishness follows the fool. When people despise the word of God are headed for destruction. True satisfaction comes to those who walk in righteousness…this is God’s desire for each of us.
