APRIL 10 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 5:5

To the world "meek" means "weak.” So, it is impossible for them to comprehend how the "meek shall inherit the earth.” The meek are seen as doormats that everyone walks on because they are powerless to do anything about it. The world views the dominate things as, made up of the strong and powerful...and the dominated, as the meek and powerless. It is impossible in the world's economy for the meek to inherit the earth or anything else....for the world sees the meek as too weak and soft to do anything. But like in so many things the world's view of things is incorrect. For meek does not equate to weak...meekness is actually strength under control. Meekness does not speak of powerlessness... but of having great power but not having that power control you.

The greatest example of this meekness is our Savior, Jesus. He is the Creator of the universe...we can't even imagine the power it took to create the entire universe with just a word. Jesus is the eternal God who took on the flesh of mankind, enabling Him to walk as a man and to die for our sins. The world wants to depict Jesus as a frail weak man. They like to portray Him as effeminate and powerless to do anything. Jesus was meek, but He was not weak. At all times He had all the power of the Godhead available to Him, there was and is no power in heaven or on earth that could overcome Him. Jesus is Almighty God...He is the omnipotent One...all the power of life; death, heaven and hell are in His hands. Yet, in His grace and mercy and because of His great love, He willingly kept that power under control and walked as a man and even died on a cross made from a tree that He created. That is meekness....no one overcame Jesus with their power... He remained and remains the Sovereign of all creation. All things belong to Him, the meek Savior...and it is He who calls us to be meek and, in this meekness, we shall inherit the earth. As believers, we have the power of heaven within us...in meekness it always under His control!
